The Indian government is seen to be working on a super app for farmers in the country, which would combine various important elements such as weather and market information, advisories for different zones, government initiatives, and more.
This super app, according to the Economic Times, will merge many apps produced by several government departments under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
AgriMarket is one of these apps, which allows farmers to get the market price of commodities within 50 kilometres of their current location. Agriculture officers can use the Bhuvan Hailstorm app to track crop damage caused by hailstorms. Farmers can use the Kisan Suvidha app to get weather updates, dealer information, market pricing, advisories, and more.Pusa Krishi, MKisan, Shetkari Masik, and Farm-o-pedia are just a few of the gov’t’s apps.
“The compilation of different apps under a super app at one place will help the farmers in choosing from a bouquet of services as per their requirements. The focus will be to aggregate these apps to further ease the process of searching a relevant app,” the ET report stated, quoting an unnamed ministry official.
Farmers would be able to get essential information with a single click if all of the services were combined under one roof. Aside from that, the new super app for farmers will provide access to research and development, as well as information on new farming technology, harvesting, and other topics.
The government has not stated when the new super app will be available, but we should learn more in the coming weeks.
